Ik wilde dit ene beeld tonen.
Het lijkt een pixelgolf maar dat is het niet.
Ik was op het Art and Technology Festival in Eindhoven een tijdje geleden. Eén van de werken was een cilinder waar je in kon gaan zitten. In de cilinder zaten heel veel piepschuim bolletjes. Als je binnenging in de cilinder werd een blazer aangezet die die bolletjes langs de wanden van de cilinder blies. Maar zelf bleef je onaangeroerd, zittend in het midden van die witte storm.

United Steppaz: Crossroads

 

Jawel, ik post hier ALLES wat uit mijn pijplijn komt. Tekeningen, foto's, en waarom niet en passant mijn muzikale alter ego promoten?

Al sinds 2004 knutsel ik met partner in crime DJ Goldorak mixtapes voor uw muzikaal plezier. Het concept United Steppaz heeft een hele tijd op pauze gestaan, maar ik ben blij jullie deze nieuwe mix te kunnen voorstellen! Een klein uur van de lekkerste funk, jazz, dub en dubstep...en dat alles opgevrolijkt met de vocals van rubadub-talent Missing Link, en afgemixt door Antwerps dubtalent Crucial Alphonso. Ammehoela!

Een stel Marvins, en Lokaal 01

Het is alweer een tijdje geleden dat ik hier iets heb getoond. 

De laatste tijd heb ik me geconcentreerd op een tentoonstelling in vintage store Paplou te Hasselt, die zou doorgaan in november. Die werd eerst uitgesteld, en daarna helaas helemaal afgelast. De winkel heeft verbouwd, waardoor hun tentoonstellingsmuur ingenomen werd door kasten. Ik moet nu terug een nieuwe plek vinden om te exposeren. Ideeën of aanbiedingen zijn wat dat betreft altijd welkom!

Hierboven zie je een selectie van werken die bedoeld waren voor die presentatie te Hasselt.

Beter nieuws: voor het komende jaar ben ik één van de aspirant-kunstcritici van Lokaal 01 te Antwerpen. Dat betekent dat ik in maart een tekst zal schrijven over het werk van Bren Heymans en Djo Moembo. Daarover snel meer!

Woensdag 23 februari kan je al terecht in Lokaal 01 voor een publiek gesprek olv Elke Couchez, over het werk van Wobbe Micha. Allen daarheen!

AmuseeVous organises cultural events in Antwerp and other Belgian cities. Young artists or people that just graduated from art school get the chance to expose in museums around Antwerp. You can witness this a.o. at saturday the 7th of august during Museumnacht, where yours truely will put the needle on some whoopass records to get your feet moving. Don't be standing around all night. Just dance.

Tentoonstelling @ Tune Up Gallery

Dit opende dus deze zondag, temidden van een stad die volledig ingesteld was op de Tour die langskwam...

Heel veel dank aan iedereen die er ondanks de verkeerschaos toch geraakt is.

Iedereen die interesse heeft om te komen kijken, wees alsnog welkom! De tentoonstelling is nog doorlopend te bezoeken tot eind augustus.

“These series are a tribute.

They bundle up six years of inspiration which comes from a journey through black music - from the first time I left London with bags full of vinyl, until the day I had the privilege to talk to some of these musicians in person. Some of these drawings are inspired by record covers or found photography, some by pictures I took on concerts, some came right out of my head. I want to express my gratitude to those musicians, for they have kept me drawing and offered me a project. Their message has intentionately been neglected for years by radiostations and TV,  for it tells the half that has never been told.

A few of these images might appear to you as iconic, as they are rooted in the dark origins of Rastafarianism. I do not share this belief and I hope these images reach an unprejudiced eye. They represent a heritage too valuable to sacrifice to a mentality that is omnipresent today : the idea that whatever becomes popular, should claim all attention from the people. What is presented to us today as eclectic, results from an unrespectful attitude towards the roots of this music. I hope these pictures might encourage you to dig and find these roots, that they will make you take your time to truly

listen.”

Iondance

Flyer for the next Iondance. All info on the flyer. Rootikal Warriah is a soundsystem enthousiast from Lyon, France. This session is not to be missed.

Front is inspired by Ethiopian fresque paintings. If I had more time I would have tried to paint it for real, but had to call on Photoshop layer blending magic now. Was surprised with the big Iondance letters that a Bevel effect doesn't always have to look shite...

Oem Zeep

Shots from "Oem Zeep", a quite fantastic initiative down at Berchem. A soap box derby: innocent fun at first sight, full of frightening dangers at second sight when you see the first one crash in the curve. Luckily, nobody was seriously hurt and the people's fun came first!
